I've been in Vegas for the UFC, so posting is light.
Hey Judith Miller, I feel for you on the one hand, but on the other, if you weren't such a shady bitch when it came to Iraq maybe this wouldn't have happened?

The Bench
There's a lot being written and talked about when it comes to Alberto Gonzales' possible nomination the Supreme Court.
Conservative groups think he's too much like Justice Kennedy since they're not sure of his views on abortion. Isn't it great when the only thing that seems to matter to them is abortion? They don't care about poor children who die from hunger, but abortion, that's an issue. They don't care about elections and integrity, but abortion, that's an issue.
I think the Bush White House loves it that conservatives are against Gonzales. If he gets nominated Bush and Co. can act like he's a moderate since the far right is against him.
Remember, he's getting hired ONLY because he's Latino. The conservatives, the ones against affirmative action, EOE, etc., and they put up the tokens.
Again, what's a conservative without hypocrisy? It's actually nothing at all since such a thing doesn't really exist.

Just Like Kenny Rogers
What is it about Texas Rangers that make them hate the media?
We know Kenny Rogers has some issues, and it's glaringly apparent that the Texas Ranger to end all Texas Rangers, George Dubya, has an issue with the media as well.
A few weeks back Bush attacked Newsweek, as did Press Secretary Scott McClellan, for their supposedly poor reporting with regards to the Koran being flushed down toilets in Guantanamo. Of course it was true, like I maintained it would be from the get go. Who do you think orchestrated this attack on Newsweek, and why?
I'm going to go with Karl Rove on this one, since he seems to orchestrate every attack. Rove and Bush, knowing full well the Plame issue is heading towards a boiling point want to discredit the media every way possible. The goal is to to keep their diehards fully in the camp. If Rove can continually paint the media as "liberal" stories from the NYTIMES, TIME Magazine, and NEWSWEEK can be slammed together.
Just think, if the Rove thing could have boiled, and the White House was actually right about the Newsweek Koran story, the right-wing media could have twisted the whole thing around in circles making Americans tired and careless about this whole Rove story. Then, of course, there'd be shows on FOX NEWS and other stations talking about the media's role, blending the Rove story and the Koran stories together. What's the media's role in covering this war, they'd ask. The whole point would be to create a cacophony of voices, and of course Average Joe would never care, or be able to follow the story.
It sounds crazy, but that's what happens in this day and age. Stories get lost. Politicians like Bush, Cheney, and Rove want to control the message to minimize the damage to themselves.
Unfortunately for them the NEWSWEEK bashing didn't stick. However, they did dodge a hit because NEWSWEEK actually DID become the story, and the urine on the Koran thing floated away. I'd say they were succesful.
This was just another preemptive strike, for sure.
As for Bush, he hates the media. He doesn't do open interviews, avoids interviews with any network except FOX NEWS, and has no problem slamming publications like NEWSWEEK when he knows deep down he's the scoundrel in all of this. He doesn't trust an organization, aka THE NEWS, that looks into his life, or the lives of others he knows. He's grown up totally protected on every flank, and now here's the media, uncovering all the things he believes he's allowed to do unquetioned.
Attacking the media is easy for a guy like this. He doesn't think they have the right to intrude, and doesn't believe Americans have the right to question his actions. Rove, Bush, Cheney, and really, all conservatives, feel the same way.
Too bad this attack didn't work, and it looks like Rove will be, uhhhhh, pardoned.

Remember
When Bush was saying he'd do everything possible to find out who leaked the Plame Story? Well, apparently Agent Bush is slipping a bit when it comes to his detective work being that he couldn't sniff out his right hand man.
