Come on, Al

You thought they had principles?
Alan Greenspan, who was chairman of the Federal Reserve for nearly two decades, in a long-awaited memoir, is harshly critical of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and the Republican-controlled Congress, as abandoning their party’s principles on spending and deficits.
The only Republican principle is: We do what we do as long as it sounds good, looks good, and won't cost us, directly, anything.
Of the presidents he worked with, Mr. Greenspan reserves his highest praise for Bill Clinton, whom he described in his book as a sponge for economic data who maintained “a consistent, disciplined focus on long-term economic growth.”

By contrast, Mr. Greenspan paints a picture of Mr. Bush as a man driven more by ideology and the desire to fulfill campaign promises made in 2000, incurious about the effects of his economic policy, and an administration incapable of executing policy.

Lie of the Week...

This time, the work was done for me.

So Basically...

What's you're saying is, you and your administration caused all these problems:
“If we were to be driven out of Iraq, extremists of all strains would be emboldened,” Mr. Bush said. “Al Qaeda could gain new recruits and new sanctuaries. Iran would benefit from the chaos and would be encouraged in its efforts to gain nuclear weapons and dominate the region. Extremists could control a key part of the global energy supply.”

Not sure there's another side to that coin.

Rest assured, Afghanistan is no better either...but how could we even know that? Not like it's actually in the news.

Thought...

Someone made a HILARIOUS post about Cindy Sheehan in the comments section, that she should be President!!! So clever!

Got me thinking a bit:

What's the difference between Cindy Sheehan and George H.W. Bush?

Her son went to war when called.

Sports

I was wrong, yes, it's true. While I thought the Yankees would flame out, and the Mets would rise, it did not happen. The Mets sorta did enough to maintain the lead, albeit having played well of late, and the Yanks surged as well, maintaining their strangle hold on the city's horrendous newspapers.

We'll see how this plays out...

But, I continue to be more than right on the money when it comes to Charlie Weis, the most overrated Coach I can ever remember.

It was his win over Michigan a few years ago that led the media to proclaim "The Irish Are Back!" Well, maybe not. And lets not blame recruiting since he has had MONSTER classes since he arrived, and great classes before it.

And, of course, as for the UFC, last Saturday's event was pretty damn good. If you didn't see Dan Henderson vs Quinton Jackson, you missed a dandy. Incredible how Dan can fight at 205 when he might weigh 204lbs after a turkey dinner. The dude is just an animal.

If By Dazzled...

You mean he didn't speak to the serious problems, and performed magic tricks in the hallway afterwards, then yes, He DAZZLED!

I'm not sure if the Post just aims to get more people killed, sell more papers at the expense of others, or what? They must figure that if we report it this way, and everyone else is reporting it the other way, then all the believers will buy OUR PAPER!

There are just so many angles to the truth, you know?

Wondering

If Chad Henne will continue to be compared to John Elway....

Thank You David Gergen

After watching this joke of a report, obvious and predictable, I thank Gergen for his post-plight analysis. For the most part he asks the question, "What happened to the benchmarks? The President has set them time and time again, and they continue to not be met."

And that's exactly the issue. Benchmarks have not been met at all, but they are certainly changed time and time again. And when they're not met they fall back on, "If we pull out things will be worse..."

Well, I have no idea if that's true, and certainly the people who have been wrong about everything they've put forward have no credibility when it comes to being right about something.

If Al Qaeda, according to Patraeus, is seeing no love by the Iraqis in Anbar Province then that is success, right? So if that's the case, and the supposed Al Q is only there to attack us, if we leave, will not Iraqis take up arms against Al Q of Mesopotamia, or other foreigners in their country? Is not the real worry here that we went to Iraq to control it's resources, and now if we leave Iran could very well control those resources? Is that NOT the issue here? Cause I know it's the issue, so at least admit that it's the issue. It's now all about Iran. At least take some responsiblity, and admit that you've been wrong about everything...Don't hold your breath.

Bottom line is there will never be success in Iraq. So many of these people have nothing to live for, so living to kill us is at least a little something. Get over the fact that we completely fucked up the Middle East and in all likelihood, with all our power, money, and might, cannot fix it. We are not them. Take it on the chin, admit that we're flawed, and find out if these people are civilised enough to take control of their own country.

Benchmarks, something Republicans love. Things like "accountablility." They love that. But when it comes to the biggest issue of all time, nothing is met, and there's no accountability. But yes, kids are still dying as are the Iraqis we supposedly care so much about.

What a Fucking Joke

I'm listening to Congressman Hunter and Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, and these two should start douche sucking Genearl Patraeus right now. It's beyond ridiculous.

They've now spent the first 10 minutes speaking about an advertisement from Moveon.org. THIS IS HOW THEY SPEND THEIR TIME!

As if Patraeus needs to hear what these people are saying about Iraq?

Apparently, MoveOn.org ran an ad titled "General "Betray" us" since they view him as a shill for the White House. Who would think that?!?! Who would think that the man who wrote Op-Eds defending Iraq before the election in 2004 could possibly be viewed as shilling? WHO COULD THINK THAT?

Not Republicans, no. They can't get to his cock fast enough.

Of course, not word one about the slander and lies of John Kerry, a member of the military, by a shadowy group of Swift Boat Vets. But when it comes to Patraeus, they are all lock stop.

Whatever you think about ads by MoveOn.org, or any other groups is irrelevant. What's relevant is the grandstanding going on for nearly an hour before this guy even speaks.

And...

There's a fact about people in the military, regardless of who it is: they think America will always win, and as military leader, will defend it regardless. These generals believe they can get the job done, no matter what/when/how, because they've spent their entire careers defending their actions. Not to compare the good vs the bad in the military because I'm not doing that. What I am doing is pointing out that these people are career military officers who believe in their own abilities, and therefore will find the silver linings in everything they do in order to continue down the road they believe will bare fruit. They cannot admit they're presiding over a flawed policy they've helped put forward.

This is why the voice of the military will always be jaded.
