The thing I respect most about Al Gore is the fact that when he ran for President his chief concern and primary policy issue was the environment. At the time it was not in vogue, and it was no going to help him gain votes outside of the educated classes, whose descisions were already made. It showed me that even in the face of all the politicking that goes on during elections he was willing to make his bed with the things he believed in. This contrasted against the charade and facade presented to us that was George W. Bush, a man who had no convictions and no clue.
It's nice to know the WOLRD can still see what's right about America even in the face of this moron, and his minions (yes, I mean those of you who supported him).

I Mean, Afterall...
The News:
LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday played down a newspaper report that the U.S. Marine Corps was pressing to remove its forces from Iraq and switch to a leading role in Afghanistan.Makes sense. Afterall, what sane person would WANT TO LEAVE IRAQ?!?!?!
"I have heard that they were beginning to think about that and that's all that I've heard. I've seen no plan, no one's come to me with any proposals about it," Gates told reporters in London after meeting his British counterpart, Des Browne.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the Marines' suggestion was raised in a session last week convened by Gates for the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff and regional war-fighting commanders. It comes at a time when Washington's key ally in Iraq, Britain, is drawing down its presence there.
"My understanding is that it's -- at this point -- extremely preliminary thinking on the part of perhaps some staff people in the Marine Corps but I don't think at this point it has any stature," Gates said.

What They Call Their Strength
Terror:
A small private intelligence company that monitors Islamic terrorist groups obtained a new Osama bin Laden video ahead of its official release last month, and around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, it notified the Bush administration of its secret acquisition. It gave two senior officials access on the condition that the officials not reveal they had it until the al-Qaeda release. They have no weaknesses. It's all strength, and it's just like this strength.
Within 20 minutes, a range of intelligence agencies had begun downloading it from the company's Web site. By midafternoon that day, the video and a transcript of its audio track had been leaked from within the Bush administration to cable television news and broadcast worldwide.
The founder of the company, the SITE Intelligence Group, says this premature disclosure tipped al-Qaeda to a security breach and destroyed a years-long surveillance operation that the company has used to intercept and pass along secret messages, videos and advance warnings of suicide bombings from the terrorist group's communications network.
