Funny

You have to laugh at these things:
Hayden told CIA employees that House and Senate intelligence committee leaders were informed about the tapes and the CIA's intention to destroy them in 2003, which some members of Congress disputed. He also said the CIA's internal watchdog watched the tapes and verified that the interrogation practices were legal. The tapes were destroyed in late 2005.

I believe it.

Iraqistan

I envision Republicans thinking this:

We can't negotiate or talk with these people! They don't speak English!!!

Trust me, I'm not far off on this.

Only in This America

An America led by morons in the White House, and morons on the radio, would a solicitor general make these comments and believe them:
Solicitor General Paul Clement, representing the administration, said foreigners captured and held outside the United States "have no constitutional rights to petition our courts for a writ of habeas corpus," a judicial determination of the legality of detention.
Foreigners, captured by Americans, held in a country we shouldn't even be in, in a prison we own and pay for, have no rights. Many have been there for close to 6 years, and we cannot figure out which, if any, are actually, or were actually, a threat to the United States on some large scale.

Most likely, most of these people are not a threat, but to avoid further embarrassment, the Bush administration would rather hold them indefinitely. Not that I give two serious shits about those captured, but what I do care about is the joke these Republicans have made of the laws in the United States. And what's worse is they've stacked the Supreme Court to back them up.

MMA Fighter Dies

There's been a lot of news about an MMA fighter dying after 6 weeks in hospice care from injuries sustained in the ring. A friend of mine at ESPN just wrote me this:
a dude dying in the ring doesn't help getting mma on espn
Well, it would have been nice if the facts were correct, such as, that he died 6 weeks later, but nevertheless.

The reality is more boxers die every year and more football and basketball players have died on the field/court than have died in MMA. Search MMA fighter dies, and boxer dies, and see what you get. Yet ESPN is happy to cover boxing.

The real reason ESPN doesn't cover the sport is they didn't get in on it, and have to finish out their deal with K-1. Had ESPN made a deal with the UFC they'd push it non-stop. But there are some older gents working over there who don't believe it's a "sport." That's about as entertaining a comment as Sports Center is these days.

In the long run, the facts about MMA will win out, and it will be a player on ESPN. But until they make the deal, they won't feature it.
