Why are plane crashes always the top news stories when clearly more people die in cars every day, and from countless other ways?

No matter how big or small the plane, you can be sure, a plane crash will be the top story on the news, or an internet news site, every time.

I don't think it's because we're so impressed with the safety records of planes that they're on top because they represent anomalies.
