Dave Berman
i've always been a huuuuuuuge fan of dave berman, the lead singer of the silver jews. i've said it many times, and will again, i think he's the best lyricist i've ever heard. somehow he and stephen malkmus met and produced incredible music.
after nearly killing himself a couple years ago, berman resurfaced, and for the first time in his life performed music in front of a live audience. previously he had been well known on the nyc poetry scene (yes, there is one...i'm not into it), and his audiences were shocked to discover this guy had a band.
after dicking around and playing most of his songs on the guitar tonight i decided to go back to his website to see whta he was up to. not surprisingly, he has finished performing, and has moved onto writing. what was surprising is the blog post he wrote to his fans just before checking out of the touring circuit. apparently his father is RICK BERMAN, aka, One of America's Biggest Pieces of Shit.
i knew who Rick "Fucking Dick" Berman was before i read Dave's apology to the world for having to be related to the guy. lets just say Rick Berman represents everything that is wrong with America, and pretty much mankind. his son Dave could not be more opposite.
coincidently i took a survey today as to whether "art and music" should be publicly funded, and then there were questions about corporations, responsibility; a host of shit. here in this world i have one of my all time favorite artists who represents most things i blieve in, yet tied to this incredible scumbag of a man, who reprsents most of what i hate.
i always say, you're born to your parents; you don't have to love and respect them, although it's great if you do. your parents just are.
anyway, it just all seemed so interesting so i'm attaching the websites, and a song...
