a host of shit. here in this world i have one of my all time favorite artists who represents most things i blieve in, yet tied to this incredible scumbag of a man, who reprsents most of what i hate.

i always say, you're born to your parents; you don't have to love and respect them, although it's great if you do. your parents just are.

anyway, it just all seemed so interesting so i'm attaching the websites, and a song...

Rick Berman

Dave's Site

People I turned to my buddy and said, "put something on hard 8..." which he then did before the next roll. Sure enough, BANG, hard eight (four/four) came up. My buddy went nuts, having cleaned up nicely.

Asked me, "How did you know?"

I replied, "Employee Number 8 just stepped to the table."

We said hello, thanks, and then rolled. But the election of Barack Obama has increased threats against the president's life by 400 percent from his predecessor, according to "In the President's Secret Service," Ronald Kessler's account of presidential security. The Secret Service has looked into a number of race-based threats since Obama took office, and a Facebook poll that asked "Should Obama be killed?" President Obama also had a Secret Service detail 18 months before the election, the earliest of any Presidential candidate.
It's because Obama has done such a worse job than Bush, of course. 4 times as bad, obviously.

Not because Bush people love guns and hate minorities...No, no, not that.

Big Guy

I really have a hard time with Chris Christie's obesity.

How can a responsible person be so fat in this day and age? That is until the right-wing (and I'm sure others) started ripping him for having received it, and those who rewarded it to him.

Once I heard the facts, how the deadline for the award was only 12 days after he came into office it started to make sense why he won the award. Others have been critical of what he has done in office, and how he "hasn't done enough to warrant" receiving it.

Really?

I want to point out that having won the office of the Presidency, being the first minority to have ever done so, to run a campaign based on "change", and helping America overcome the previous 8 years while promising a turning of the corner going forward is ENOUGH! No one else in history has ever come close to winning the Presidency in this racist ass country, and this man did it. He has put his life on the line in doing so, and will every day going forward as more and more people speak of him as illegitimate, amongst other terms.

He represents change and opportunity to so many people not just in America, but around the world, that a minority could win the supposedly most important job in the world. He has created a sense of opportunity and pride, as well a greater sense of oneness throughout the world, and that is a step towards a more peaceful planet.

Unless you want to downgrade the position he has achieved, his accomplishment, and the symbolism of what he has done, then it's hard to say he's not worthy. However, I would assume those people who would disparage his accomplishments are the very people who act as if racism and world harmony are not really problems. Ironically, it's often the racists themselves who feel this way; those who are speaking the loudest against him now.

Amazing

Rush Limbaugh disparaging President Obama and the Nobel Peace.

The first positive recognition by the world of the US in ages, and this is how some conservatives look at it.

Truth is, I get it. Essentially the prize is for the rejection of all the things Republicans have stood for internationally the previous 8 years, and Obama receives the award out of the hope he'll transition away from those things. Those ideas and actions represent the things Limbaugh and others have stood for.

Most of the world rejects US Republicans as a whole, and that's a fact.

Does he deserve the award? Nope. That's not the point though. It's the international community thanking the United States, not Obama. Thanking the US for reengaging, breaking barriers, and hopefully moving forward in our efforts to be a better nation.

It's a rejection of Bush.

...

no one's gonna push my...buttons...

From the Do What I Say...

Not what I do edition of the Rush Limbaugh show:
ST. LOUIS -- Published and broadcast reports say radio personality Rush Limbaugh and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts are joining together in a bid to purchase the St. Louis Rams.

This is comical for a few reasons.

First, I heard the Limbaugh showed for 25 seconds yesterday, literally, and he was discussing football. Saying something to the effect, "Man, I hope Favre has a good game and doesn't throw it to the wrong team! Make sure you throw it to the guys in White!" I guess he doesn't realize the home team usually wears the colors...

Second, and more importantly, when Obama came into office, Limbaugh did an entire thing about how sports owners were going to sell their franchises because of tax reasons. How the Dolphins were going up for sale because it's no longer a good investment!

And on, and on, and on, and on...

Well, I guess it's not such a bad investment.

Or, maybe, for personal and sympathetic reasons, he just wants to be in control of the stadium the St. Louis Rams play in. After all, it is the home of one of America's greatest moments: THE FIRST FREE SPEECH ZONE!!!

Tough to Listen

Last night:

"I can't tell ya how impressed I AM with Bill Davis. Some thoughts:

The Jets are not a great team, nor are they bad. Week 1 against the Texans was more impressive than Week 2 versus the Patriots. Although it seems like Week 2 has propelled them into stardom.

Look at it realistically. Defenses are always ahead of offenses in the NFL, and that's especially true with a talented team opposing coaches have no film on. The Jets have had good players for a couple of years, and now with a new coach at the helm there is nothing to look at when teams are preparing. Over time offenses will catch up with the aggressive defensive play-calling of Rex Ryan. This defense overwhelmed the Texans in game 1. More importantly, the Jets veteran offensive line was able to hold off a solid Texans defense. Kudos for that game.

Game 2 versus that Patriots is big because it's the storied Pats, a division rival, and team that owns the Jets. Add the shit-talking which transpired before the game and the level was raised. Even with all of this, it was a home game against a team missing its best defensive player (Mayo), with its formerly best defensive superstar (Seymour) now on another team. On top of that, Wes Welker, who is as important to this team's offense as Tom Brady (ask Matt Cassel), did not play.

It's not as if the Jets offense looked great at home; it did not look at as good as the Bills offense did the previous week against the Pats. The Jets still have a rookie QB, and for the most part, they're an 8-8 offense, at best. It's the defense that's playing like a 13-3 squad that has put them in this spot. It will balance out, and the team will come back to earth as teams now know what's coming. Good thing for the Jets though is they'll likely be starting off 3-0, and will have some room to work with.

Yes, 3-0. I do not like the Titans at all this year. Losing Haynesworth was huge, and Kerry Collins will have a really hard time with the Jets defense. Unless they can counter the blitzing with screens to lightning fast Chris Johnson, I see the Titans losing, going to 0-3, and having a long season. Then again, Jeff Fisher is one of the best coaches in the league, so you never know.

And now for New York's best team: The Giants. I believed before the season Eli Manning would have his best season, and it looks to me like this will be the case. Losing Burress hurt the team when Manning was focused on Burress, and Burress alone. Now knowing he has to spread it out, with no main guy on the field, has helped Manning. To me it reminds me of his days in college at Mississippi, when he spread it all over the place. It was his play in college that led me to believe he would be a superstar. He's getting there.

Right now the Giants offense is supposedly focused on the power run game, and teams are prepared for it, so this leaves Eli to operate with all of his wide receivers, none of which has to be a star. I think back to Warren Moon and the "Run-n-Shoot" offense which featured Drew Hill, Ernest Givins, Haywood Jeffires and Curtis Duncan. All were very good players, but at the time, none of these guys were superstars. I believe Mario Manningham, Steve Smith, Domenick Hixon and Hakeem Nicks can do the same thing for the Giants.

The only real problem for the G-Men is staying healthy on defense. If that happens, this team should win the conference.

...

Tony Romo has reached his ceiling. He will win some big games, maybe make the playoffs, etc., but he will never be a championship quarterback. There's a reason he was an undrafted free agent out of a no name school. Has the physical skills, but clearly does not have the brain.

...

I like the Bengals, and did before the season began. I think they will pull it out against the Steelers this weekend, but it's going to be a tough game for them. They could fold early, but if they don't I really like the Bengals to pull this out.

...

The Eagles are in trouble.

...

The Panthers might be in trouble.

...

Lions beat the Redskins? Man, I sure as hell hope so. First win in what, 22 games?

...

Please acknowledge, once and for all, that David Garrard is not good.

...

Jamarcus Russell should be throwing garbage onto the back of a truck somewhere in Louisiana.

Although, in his defense, he's just missing. Sounds crazy, but he's literally inches off from making plays. If he doesn't get confidence he will go down as a worse pick than Ryan Leaf...who I liked...

...

Matt Forte will be fine.

...

Matt Ryan is ridiculous.

...

Chad Pennington should not be starting on the Dolphins.

...

Mark Sanchez has incredible footwork, and will be a star.

...

Good time to trade Frank Gore if you play fantasy football.

...

Good time to get Rashad Mendenhall if you play fantasy football.

...

The Saints can't win a Superbowl. Saints can shred any team in the regular season, but that style of offense NEVER wins big games consistently.

I Was Right

Malkmus song "Mama" is the first song played in the new show Bored to Death.

Official "it" girl.

Help Me Out Here

I was told today's Pavement on sale was the "internet pre-sale", which I believed meant only some of the tickets would be released. Finally, something everyone could agree upon in music!

Years have passed wherein I would peruse the bar Mark Ibold works at, hit him up about music, and inevitably ask, "So, when's it happening?" with a wry smile. My buddy Andy caught wind last year from Malkmus himself that it was certainly going to happen. Now here it is.

My friend asked me "Since when did everyone give a shit about Pavement?"

To which I replied, "After they died, of course..."

Whatever though, they're the most ridiculous band, and it's certainly something to look forward to, even if it is over a year away...
